The watchmen hear the marching long before they see the army. Through the grave mist comes Ridan, leading warriors whose old wounds no longer trouble them and whose oaths have outlasted their graves. Rusted blades scrape against ruined shields; behind them, a ragged banner stirs in the wind. No one calls for rest. As the column reaches the city gates, a soldier on the wall recognizes the crest they carry. It belongs to a kingdom buried beneath this city centuries ago.
